THE Bigueño FESTIVAL
The Bigueno Festival. Heart warming smiles of the Longganisa Dancers. |
Viva we will
always proclaim and shout. January is a big month for a small city sizing 28.8605
square kilometers in the heart bounded land located approximately between the
meridian 120 23’15’’ east longitude and parallel to 17 34’30’’ north latitude.
Vigan City the
New Seven Wonder City of the World celebrates its grandest Fiesta and
commemoration of cityhood in January. In addition, the Conversion of Saint Paul
the Apostle is also celebrated- the city’s patron saint.
Bigueños from
all over the country and even abroad return to Vigan, as it is the custom of
Filipinos to return to their hometown to join their family and friends in the
celebration of their fiesta. They are joined by thousands of visitors from
other parts of the Philippines and other countries in enjoying the cultural
shows, parades and street dancing prepared by the local government with the
help of the local industries and communities. There are also food fairs, arts
and crafts exhibits, as well as a visiting carnival.
Longganisa the
towns OTOP (One town, One Product) is the statement piece in this event.
Cooking various meals and dishes as well as locally advertising it through
dance to its street dances and shouts. Its appreciation through art is inviable.
Our Grandest Float Parades fill the streets with people with such genuine
smiles on their faces. Agriculturally we had established empowerment because of
uplifting the Agriculture in the metro. Prior to this different academic and
non- academic contests are joined by different schools with cultural and
historic questing of the Ilocos.
Come and explore the finest Heritage City of Vigan and celebrate our City Fiesta with us Bigueños. And let’s all say Agbiag ti Vigan City. Viva Longganisa Festival
